This was the sixth location for the bi-annual gathering of the Craig cousins from Kentucky and Texas, and it was a great place! Ditto all the glowing comments about the house, the location, the views, the amenities, etc. The only thing we wished for were some fans during our July stay. The temps weren't too bad, but a little movement in the air would have made it that much more pleasant. Thanks to the family for sharing this fabulous property and kudos to Pagosa Central Management for taking care of us!
We loved our stay at High Country Chalet. It was perfect for our large family. Everyone had their own space, yet there were cozy areas throughout the home to gather the family. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and stunning sunsets over Turkey Creek. The kids loved the theatre room and had endless places to play hide and seek. The kitchen was well stocked and the dining area was large enough to accommodate our big group. The overall experience was wonderful, and we will definitely be revisiting this place in the future!
We had a great time at the Lodge. The house was well done with lots of room.
This is an amazing property. Every amenity that you can think of. Will stay again. Room for everyone. I love the heated floors, no house shoes needed to keep the feet warm.
My family of 16 with ages 74 to 3 stayed seven nights at the High Country Chalet in mid July. It was a wonderful retreat for all of us. The house is stunning with the soaring ceilings, creative wood carvings and furniture, and the great views of the mountains in the back. It is spacious with an area available for everyone to gather and areas for privacy and individual interests. The pool table and theater room were well used but also the hot tub and fire pit were equally enjoyed. We love to cook and to eat so much time was spent in the beautiful, well equipped kitchen. The round table seated all the adults and the children enjoyed a table to themselves in the kitchen area. The peaceful setting with no one around us was so relaxing. Sitting on the deck watching the cows, listening to the river, surveying the mountain setting and observing the children exploring, we felt like it was a true vacation. We have been renting homes for our family week for 37 years and this year the house is a real favorite.
Our family of 4 adults/4 kids stayed a few nights around NYE. We can't say enough about this amazing home and our experience in Pagosa and Wolf Creek.
The house is stunning both outside and in. Let's start with the location, which is about halfway between Pagosa and Wolf Creek. Which means that it's about as close as families can stay to the ski resort. Period. The drive back to Pagosa is easy. We enjoyed the hot springs and adorable shopping and restaurants.
The house is privately tucked away from the road, about one city block behind the pines. The extensive acreage and spectular sylvan and mountain views offer an intimate setting and instant tranquility. And with the snow, the kids were able to tube on a hill by the driveway. I can imagine that without snow the land offers easy exploration for the kids. Note that the driveway was cleared and easily accessible.
No I don't the owner but I wish I did! So let me describe the house itself. It's huge, spacious, and each bedroom is large with king-size beds, space for relaxing, and en-suite bathrooms. The decor is indulgent with natural and lacquered woods. We loved the style, a combination of mountain, mission, and high-end technology. Each bathroom is also unique with slate tile. The master bath rocks with a waterfall shower flowing into a spacious tub. The 3-story bunk bed upstairs was treat for the kids.
My kids about lost it when they discovered the downstairs slate and wood floors are heated. For real. You can dry your shoes and socks on this floor. Ultra cozy.
Our boys couldn't wait to return from skiing to play pool on this professional grade table. The pool cues need new tips but otherwise I was delighted that game-playing was active and involved no screens. There is a gaming console upstairs but we never touched it.
The movie theatre upstairs is pretty cool. I found the system a little complicated but with the provided instructions I muddled through. The available DVDs were a nice touch. And with some popcorn we had a nice little movie experience.
There is a killer fireplace in the center of the lower lever. With the wood from the porch we kept the place cozy while adding that outdoor/mountain feel.
The hot tub is stunning. 270 degree views of the mountains. Deeply relaxing. My hair froze while in the tub. The chlorine is a bit intense but I would not trade the experience for anything, especially after skiing and playing with kids all day.
The kitchen is gourmet with slate countertops and a full sized griddle. And with the huge dining table we enjoyed some great family moments.
I really hope we can come back to enjoy some hiking and fishing. We've stayed at many mountain homes and this beats everything. I've seen homes like this but they were at tycoon prices. This was truly a treat and I can't thank the owners enough for letting us have this experience. It was a few days of adventure and indulgence. Best of luck to those of you who stumble upon this rare gem.
